What is CAGR?
CAGR (Compounded Annual Growth Rate) is average annual growth rate of an investment or business over a specific period of time. It shows how much value has grown each year on average, assuming growth happened steadily, even though actual returns may fluctuate. CAGR helps simplify performance by converting overall growth into a single yearly percentage, making it easier to compare different investments and understand long-term growth trends.
CAGR formula to calculate the investments is represented by:
CAGR = (FV / PV) 1 / n – 1
Simple meaning:
CAGR tells you the average yearly growth of an investment.
- FV = Final Value (ending amount)
- PV = Present Value (starting amount)
- n = Number of years
Example:
| Investment | Invested Amount | Final Value | Profit | Growth |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | ₹1,00,000 | ₹3 Crore | ₹2.99 Cr | 300x |
| Nifty 50 | ₹1,00,000 | ₹2.86 Lakh | ₹1.86 Lakh | 2.86x |
