63% of Americans Reject Trump Family’s Crypto Profits as Ethics Battle Intensifies
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds a majority of Americans oppose Trump and his family profiting from cryptocurrency during his presidency as Washington debates the future of digital currencies. A national online poll of 1,166 U.S.
adults between August 14 and 17, in response to the news, found that 63% of respondents said it was inappropriate for the Trump family to make the profit, while 32% said it was appropriate, according to Reuters. The poll has an error margin of about three percentage points.
The poll also found that support for financial benefits from families’ cryptocurrency holdings differed substantially along partisan lines. Democrats were less likely, while Republicans were more likely, to support it.
Nevertheless, 69% of Americans, including two-thirds of independents and nine out of ten Democrats, thought Trump’s business interests influenced his presidency. The surveys are public opinion polls and not evidence of any wrongdoing or decisions made to benefit either.
