Coinbase Just Abandoned Its Biggest Wallet Rebrand: What Went Wrong With the Base App?

Coinbase has reversed one of its biggest consumer crypto rebrands. Just over a year after transforming Coinbase Wallet into the Base App, the company is bringing the Coinbase Wallet name back and refocusing the product around trading.

Apparently, its ambitious “everything crypto app” experiment did not work as planned. But Coinbase is not shutting the wallet down or abandoning Base.

Instead, it is separating two platforms that became increasingly difficult to merge: Base as blockchain infrastructure and Coinbase Wallet as a self-custodial trading product.
