PlanB Comes Out Against BIP 110 Bitcoin Fork

Bitcoin analyst PlanB says BIP 110 would set a dangerous precedent by allowing protocol rules to reject transactions.

PlanB, the pseudonymous analyst known for creating Bitcoin’s stock-to-flow (also known as S2F) model, has come out against BIP 110, arguing that the proposed anti-spam Bitcoin fork would undermine BTC’s role as a decentralized bearer asset.

The analyst wrote in an X post: “To be clear (if it wasn’t already clear from me retweeting Adam on this topic): I am against the bip 110 filter fork.” As PlanB argued, supporters of the proposal misunderstand Bitcoin’s bearer-asset model, underestimate how much other users also dislike spam and have failed to learn from the 2017 Bitcoin Cash fork, when a dispute over block-size rules created a rival chain that never came close to replacing Bitcoin.

In later replies, PlanB suggested that enforcing BIP 110 would inevitably raise questions over who creates and maintains the filters and who decides which transactions qualify as spam or non-compliant.
