Polygon to Permanently Burn 100 Million POL Tokens
Polygon Foundation CEO Sandeep Nailwal announced that the network will permanently burn 100 million POL tokens, extending the blockchain’s push toward a deflationary token model.
In a post on X, Nailwal said the burn contract has already been deployed to the testnet and will move to the mainnet once the Polygon Security Council completes its final signatures.
The announcement follows months of discussion within the Polygon community about how to make POL more deflationary as network activity continues to grow.
How the Burn Is Structured The initial 100 million POL burn is a one-time event, drawn from a fee collector that has accumulated roughly 121 million POL to date.
