Stanford Cryptographer Dan Boneh: Quantum Computers Won’t Break Bitcoin

BitcoinWorld Stanford Cryptographer Dan Boneh: Quantum Computers Won’t Break Bitcoin Dan Boneh, a professor of computer science at Stanford University and co-director of the Stanford Applied Cryptography Group, has publicly dismissed concerns that quantum computers will compromise Bitcoin’s security.

Speaking in a recent interview highlighted by The Bitcoin Historian, Boneh stated that those who believe quantum computing will break blockchain security are mistaken.

He emphasized that the issue is already well understood and can be resolved by transitioning to post-quantum addresses. Quantum Threats and Bitcoin’s Cryptographic Foundation Bitcoin relies on elliptic curve cryptography (specifically ECDSA) to secure transactions and wallets.

A sufficiently powerful quantum computer could, in theory, solve the discrete logarithm problem that underpins ECDSA, potentially allowing an attacker to derive private keys from public ones.
