X Launches US Cashtag Trading With Coinbase, Kraken and Major Brokers

X launched a Cashtag Partner Program in the US, linking the ticker pages of stocks, ETFs and cryptocurrencies to five launch partners that provide brokerage services: Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo.

Users can tap on a supported cashtag, e.g., $BTC, to get to an asset page which contains price information and related posts. Afterwards, by clicking a new button called “Trade”, users can select a participating partner, and either the app or website of the partner opens.

X does not actually trade itself; a user has to log in or open a compatible brokerage account to complete a trade on the partner’s platform.

For now, the model is limited to the journey from financial-focused conversation to trading screens, with execution, onboarding and product availability left to the firms.
